The current service that Rainbow House offers is a specialist education programme known as Conductive Education for children from 3months – 13years with disabilities. Our provisional goal is learning how to learn, learning to find ones own ways to achieve personally formulated goals, experiencing greater independence and exercising choice through rhythm, song and play, so as they can better access play and learning provisions within their local community. To better equip each child, to achieve their goals in sitting, standing and walking and to improve their social skills like eating, dressing and toileting.

The structures of the services allows all the children to work at their own pace in a homogenous group. Groups are formed according to ability and individual needs. Children may access our services in various ways, as a full time position or sessional, which can mean anything from 1-3 hours depending on age and ability.

This service provides an opportunity to reunite parent with child, in teaching the parent a better understanding of their child’s ability. Giving them the opportunity to bond and play together, as this may in circumstances be lost due to fear or lack of knowledge. The aims of this service are to introduce the children and their families to our services, and to provide a sound base for this approach. We teach parents to encourage their children’s learning within their everyday life. Rainbow House provides a place and opportunity to meet other parents of children with special educational needs and disabilities.

This provision is offered to children whom attend other services, either nursery or school. Depending on age and ability. The times offered could be anything from a 1 hour one to one service to a 3 hour session within a group. We aim to place all children within their relevant age groups, allowing them to embrace learning and development of movement, speech and metal ability simultaneously - holistically, not separately or consecutively.

The early years service is designed to meet the needs of children aged 2-6 years and their families by delivering a flexible service which can be adapted to meet a variety of needs.
The needs may be met by :

• Rainbow House via Sessional Conductive Education Services while your child attends another facility, such as a nursery or school.

• The Legacy Nursery, to be open January 2007: Full time provisions will be offered within this service as a Nursery to offer local education authority targets in early years learning and to meet all educational inspections via Ofsted. Preparing the child for a smooth integration into their chosen school, liaising with LEA and the other relevant bodies and ensuring that the integration process is as smooth and as enjoyable as possible.

The services of Conductive Education are on offer in :
The Castle Street Centre : Kendal : Monday & Tuesday
Trinity Centre : Clitheroe : Thursday & Friday

These services have been founded to meet the needs of children with disabilities within more localised communities.
The Rainbow staff will meet the needs of both the parents and the children. Parents and child groups will
be offered when necessary.

This provision is for school aged children whom are unable to attend during the week due to other commitments. These sessions enable children to work in an integrated way with other children with physical disabilities. Our services is based on a theory that the motor disabled child develops and learns in the same way as their peers.

Children whom do not live locally can attend on a fixed term, block basis for a minimum of three hours 5 days per week. Children attending on this basis will be allocated independent learning programme to be continued within the home.

Children whom attend our services will be encouraged to become integrated and accepted members of their community. The Rainbow staff will attend meetings and reviews on behalf of the children, liaising with all relevant bodies in charge of the child’s welfare, aiming to integrate them into their local mainstream school with ease.
